>Great Expectations

>I have always grown up,being taught not to expect anything from anybody, no matter what you do for them. Anything you do should always be a selfless act and not a selfish one. Thats what I had always heard…

22 years into my life and it taught me that nobody does anyone favours, they ALWAYS expect something or the other in cash or in kind..well in most cases in kind!Honestly there are very few people I have done something for and not expected anything in return..with most of the people I have met in life, its always been a give and take relation..that was before I met him.

He always told me to stop expecting anything from anybody incuding him. Well its not that easy..I have always had reasons to believe that noone in the world does things out of altruism.NEVER.Why should i be different? But then because it was he who said it, I jus couldn’t disagree so I gave it a try..Atleast with him,I started to do things and not expect anything in return..Slowly I was begining to enjoy it.It certainly was fun until one night I heard the same person tell me in the midst of a conversation that there were certain ways he wanted me to be and he EXPECTED me to behave in that exact manner! I was stunned coz it was the same person wo told me a few days ago that I wasn’t to expect anything! It was just not right.

Life was just not being fair. How could it be double standards?!Where did the “practice what you preach” disappear? And then I realised I was right all along! All the time! People always did things for others expecting something…ALWAYS..
I guess i don’t have anything much to say coz I am quite confused as to how to move on..So till I figure that out,
In the words of my hero,”Blessed is the man who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed”

There is a deep and cosmological connection between my birth, my parent's decision to name me what they did, my profession and my education. This brings me to the conclusion that fate is predetermined and like in Hindu mythology, is written by Brahma when someone is born. Example: My name is unique. I did my grads in Psychology. I then did my masters in HR (offshoot of following all the psychos). I then did the ultimate decision of joining an MNC in ............. beat it, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT. So, I have the concept 'MAD' in my name, my education, my choice of career and all the milestone decisions of my life. Now, is it predetermined or what ? :-D

  1. >Vaishak but dats entrly diffrnt naa??she just expecting life to b fair…dat dosnt mean she expctng much frm othrs.lyf z not a barter system naa?atlst in our emotional matters…i thnk so

  2. >well it depends on how people define life. For some life is being with friends, and for some its being with the one person whom they are meant to .For some, it may be other material things. So depending on whether life is fair or not, depends totally on what they want from it

  3. >I have been giving this post quite sometime. Here is what i think..Expectation is one thing we can't completely eliminate "expectations" from our life. One or the other, we will have it. Even in the simple matters too…We expect buses to arrive on time, we expect a fine day ahead when we get up in the morning,we expect everything to go smoothly,we expect doctors to do their job ,we expect police to keep us safe,we expect our kids to take care of us,we expect our leaders to stand up for what is right for us,we expect someone to show us way,we expect someone to be there for us,we expect someone to watch over us,…..One way or the other, there are expectations in our life, no matter how hard we try to keep it out.And Madri whether you like it or not, life and everything in it is part of a give and take cycle

  4. >thanx calmrythm and vaisakh.. life is not a person or a thing..however its existence..and to all ur comments i have only one thing to say..expectations can be realistic and unrealistic, what seems like a realistic expectation for one may seem like a totally unrealistic for another.and cr yr is definitely not a barter system but sometimes i expect people to act "bartered"
